Millions of Americans live in HOA-or-COA governed communities. But when communication breaks down, accountability disappears—and homeowners are often left feeling voiceless. Until now. The HOA Doctor team envisioned a platform that empowers homeowners to leave verified reviews of their communities, engage with one another through questions and answers, and ensure their concerns reach the right decision-makers. Just as importantly, it would allow board members to respond, share documents, and improve public trust.
Chop Dawg was brought in to translate that vision into a polished, scalable product experience—one that feels like a cross between Yelp, Glassdoor, and Nextdoor, but purpose-built for community living. The result is a transparent, secure, and future-ready platform that bridges the gap between residents and their HOA leadership.
Before HOA Doctor, there was no centralized place for homeowners to find unbiased, secure reviews of their community associations. Misinformation spread quickly. Important documents were difficult to access. Boards struggled to manage incoming feedback. The HOA Doctor team needed a web-based solution that could handle sensitive data, moderate user-generated content, and verify real users with real ties to their communities. Residents had to feel safe sharing their concerns. Boards needed tools to respond and provide clarity. Chop Dawg stepped in to build a modern digital experience that solved for all sides—making information, communication, and transparency not only possible, but expected.
Uniting Residents and Boards Through Transparency, One Review at a Time
The HOA Doctor team partnered with Chop Dawg to plan and develop a powerful MVP (minimum viable product) designed to handle real people, real communities, and real responsibility. Together, we defined user flows for residents submitting reviews, uploading proof of residency, messaging their boards, and engaging with their community’s Q&A feed. We also planned board-facing tools for document management, notifications, and review replies.
With shared Slack channels, weekly Zoom check-ins, Figma previews, and Jira-managed tasks, we maintained alignment every step of the way. Our iterative design process gave HOA Doctor the flexibility to test feature ideas, refine community onboarding, and ensure moderation tools were airtight. The end result is a smart, secure digital hub that’s restoring faith in community governance—one neighborhood at a time.
From verified reviews to searchable community Q&As, HOA Doctor gives residents and boards the tools they need to communicate clearly, safely, and respectfully.
Homeowners upload proof of ownership (such as tax records or deeds) to earn a verified badge before submitting reviews. Ratings are broken down by key metrics like Communication, Maintenance, and Fairness—giving future residents honest insight and current boards clear, actionable feedback.
Residents can ask questions about dues, policies, or issues—and receive public responses from neighbors or board members. Helpful answers are upvoted, official responses are flagged, and all threads are searchable for long-term clarity.
Verified board members can claim their association’s page, upload documents, respond to reviews, and manage user reports. This feature promotes dialogue, transparency, and a fair platform for both residents and leadership.
A secure messaging system lets homeowners contact board representatives or one another. Push alerts and email notifications ensure important conversations aren’t missed—keeping everyone informed and engaged.
Whether managing a single HOA or hundreds across the country, the platform equips administrators with reliable, flexible tools for moderation and outreach.
Search functionality helps users find their HOA by name, address, or location. Filters for rating, community type, and board response availability simplify discovery and improve visibility for active communities.
The admin dashboard includes tools for reporting abusive content, reviewing flags, and archiving duplicates. No reviews are deleted without a documented reason—ensuring transparency and fairness for all users.
HOA board admins can invite additional team members, set access permissions, and oversee responses. Role-based access helps ensure only authorized individuals manage official content and documents.
