Bringing Discipline, Mentorship, And Structure Together With DLD - Donald Legacy Defined

DLD – Donald Legacy Defined is more than a brand name, it is a commitment to helping athletes build real, lasting legacies through intentional work. By partnering with Elliot Donald, a standout Pitt defensive lineman and nephew of NFL legend Aaron Donald, Chop Dawg helped shape a mobile experience that feels like a virtual sports university in your pocket. From the first tap, the app welcomes athletes into a guided environment where video lessons, written instruction, practice logging, streak tracking, and leaderboards all work together to keep them focused, accountable, and constantly improving.

A Lifelong Competitor Builds A Digital University: Introduction To DLD - Donald Legacy Defined

Elliot Donald knows exactly what it feels like to chase big goals as a student athlete. He has lived the early mornings, the pressure filled seasons, and the moments where the right guidance could have changed everything, only to find that the sports world is full of scattered clips, one off opinions, and resources that do not teach the full game of development across technique, positional mastery, mental preparation, and discipline. Over time, he realized there was no single destination that treated an athlete’s journey with the same structure and seriousness as a real playbook or training manual.

E. Donald Training LLC was formed to change that. The vision behind DLD – Donald Legacy Defined is to create a structured, level based learning system that supports athletes of all ages and backgrounds, from a 14 year old defensive lineman in Georgia to a college bound star grinding in Florida. To bring that vision to life, Elliot partnered with Chop Dawg to design a complete non functional prototype that maps the entire experience end to end, so investors, schools, parents, and coaches can see exactly how the MVP will look, feel, and behave long before development begins.

Breaking Barriers To Impact: DLD’s Need For A Structured Digital Playbook

Before DLD, athletes and coaches were forced to stitch together their development from disconnected sources. Young players bounced between social media clips, random online articles, and personal notes, hoping to build consistent progress out of inconsistent information. Coaches tried to reinforce discipline, film study, and game prep, but once their athletes left the field, weight room, or classroom, there was no central digital hub that carried their voice forward. Parents searching for trustworthy guidance often found either overly complex programs meant for professionals or oversimplified advice that did not match real life demands.

There was no single system that combined short form videos, written breakdowns, practice exercises, streak tracking, and leaderboards into a cohesive, level based journey. There was no path that could guide a true beginner through fundamentals, then progressively unlock intermediate and advanced content as they improved. There was also no scalable admin tool that allowed Elliot to curate a multi sport curriculum, assign XP, and manage badges without ongoing developer work. DLD needed a digital playbook that clearly showed how onboarding, subscriptions, training paths, gamification, and admin control would work together, along with an investor ready prototype that could prove the concept in a tangible way.

How We Worked Together

Designing A Comprehensive Non Functional Prototype For Multi Sport Training

From the very beginning, we approached this engagement as if we were architecting a full production product, even though the deliverable was a non functional prototype. Working closely with Elliot, we aligned on his core promise of real athletes, real goals, and real structure behind every lesson, then translated that into detailed user journeys for athletes, coaches, and parents. Week after week, we met to refine flows for loading and landing screens, registration, login and password resets, subscription trials and tiers, dashboards, modules, streaks, badges, leaderboards, notifications, and settings, all while capturing the nuances of how actual training happens off the field and in the gym.

Figma served as our shared playbook. Every interaction, from tapping the app icon to logging a final rep in a practice drill, was mapped into clickable screens that behave like the real thing. At the same time, we grounded the design in Elliot’s future technology strategy, documenting how React Native, Firebase, Node.js, and Google Cloud Platform can support the app’s data flows and security requirements. The result is a prototype that is not only visually compelling, but also realistic enough to guide engineering, fundraising, and early partner conversations without guesswork.

Delivering Curriculum, Motivation, And Accountability With A Next Generation Mobile App

We designed an iPhone and Android experience that turns everyday training into a guided, trackable journey for athletes and coaches.

Structured Lesson Paths That Feel Like A Virtual Sports University

The prototype showcases a topic and subtopic based curriculum where athletes can start with Football and later expand into other sports. Within each sport, we defined tracks like Defensive Line, Linebacker, Quarterback, Mental Readiness, Lifting, and Game Prep, each split into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced tiers. Every module blends short form videos, written breakdowns, and practice exercises, so users do not just watch content, they work through a progressive learning path that can be revisited, retaken, and mastered over time.

A Dashboard That Puts Progress, Streaks, And Next Steps Front And Center

After login, athletes land on a personalized Dashboard that feels like their home base. The greeting uses their name and training level, while a progress ring shows how far they are within their current track. A dedicated “Continue” card highlights the last module they were working on so they can resume instantly. Streak and lifetime record visuals reinforce daily consistency, while a horizontally scrollable carousel of recommended modules surfaces the next best drills based on sport, position, and past performance. Quick navigation tiles lead to All Drills, Badges and Achievements, and Leaderboards with a single tap.

Engaging Modules For Watching, Reading, And Practicing In One Place

Inside each training module, we designed three clear tabs, Video, Read, and Practice, that reflect how athletes truly learn. The Video tab uses a native player concept with play controls, captions, and auto resume so users can pick up where they left off. The Read tab presents structured, scrollable instructions with headings, bullet lists, and images that explain the “why” behind each drill. The Practice tab guides athletes through interactive exercises, rep logging, timers, or quizzes. Once the athlete has watched most of the video, reached the end of the text, and submitted practice, the module is marked complete and syncs with XP and badge logic behind the scenes.

Powerful Search, Browsing, And Offline Friendly Access For Busy Schedules

Because athletes train in all kinds of environments, we designed search and browse tools that keep the experience fast and flexible. A persistent search bar lets users type queries like “defensive” or “footwork” and see smart suggestions for modules and topics. Browsing by sport, position, difficulty, and popularity feels natural, with responsive grids and category tabs optimized for one handed portrait use. Cached data and planned offline options allow athletes to access recent modules even when connectivity is weak, while clear messaging helps them understand when they are viewing last synced content.

Badges, Points, Leaderboards, And Notifications That Make The Work Stick

To support motivation and accountability, the prototype includes a full gamification layer and notification system. Athletes earn XP for completing modules, logging practice, and maintaining streaks, with visible totals next to their avatar. Badges celebrate milestones, from “First Module” and “7 Day Streak” to track specific certifications, and appear in a dedicated Badges and Points section and on profiles. Leaderboards highlight top performers globally, among friends, and within specific sport tracks, while notification flows show how reminders, streak nudges, and leaderboard updates will bring athletes back at the right moments.

Empowering E. Donald Training With An Intuitive Admin Platform

Beyond the consumer facing app, we designed a secure web application that lets Elliot manage curriculum, taxonomy, and growth at scale.

End To End Module Creation And Curriculum Management

In the admin portal, we designed a detailed “Add New Module” experience where Elliot and his team can set every aspect of a lesson. Admins define titles, sports, positions, difficulty levels, estimated durations, tags, and XP values that power gamification. They upload videos or reference streaming URLs, add supplemental images, and write instructional content using a rich editor built for headings, lists, and sections like Overview, Technique, and Drill Steps. Practice exercises can be configured using templates such as rep counters, stopwatches, or multiple choice quizzes, making it simple to build fully structured modules without writing code.

Taxonomy, Tracks, And Ordering That Match How Coaches Actually Teach

To keep the mobile browsing experience clean and intuitive, we created a unified content and taxonomy management view. Admins can search and filter modules by sport, position, difficulty, status, and dates, then publish, unpublish, archive, or delete when needed. A drag and drop hierarchy lets them manage categories, tracks, and sub categories in a tree view, for example Football, then Defensive Line, then specific sub topics. Custom ordering within each sport and position ensures that what athletes see in the app matches the teaching priorities Elliot wants to emphasize.

Secure Access, Version History, And Controlled Publishing

Because this content represents years of experience and will guide real athletes, we designed the admin environment with security and control in mind. Admin login flows include email and password authentication, with the option to layer in two factor verification. Draft and publish states allow modules to be refined before going live, while version history provides a record of changes and the ability to revert if needed. Logout flows, time based session management, and clear feedback messages are all baked into the design so that authorized staff can manage the platform confidently from any modern browser.

End To End Guidance And Support

From the first workshop to the final clickable screen, our team acted as a strategic partner for DLD, not just a design vendor. We helped Elliot shape what belonged in the MVP non functional prototype, how the technology foundation should be positioned, and how the prototype itself could serve as a fundraising and stakeholder engagement tool, making sure every design choice supported his long term vision for athletes and coaches.

  • MVP Non Functional Prototype Strategy

We did not simply design screens, we helped Elliot define the right scope for a non functional prototype that feels like a real app. Together, we prioritized the most important flows for an investor ready narrative, including onboarding, registration, subscription, dashboard, modules, gamification, leaderboards, notifications, settings, and admin. This allowed Elliot to test assumptions and tell a complete story without rushing into development prematurely.

  • Technical And Security Consulting

Throughout the project, we advised on a technology approach that balances speed, scalability, and security. We mapped how Firebase Auth, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Node.js services could work together to support progress tracking, leaderboards, badges, and notifications. We also called out security practices, including encryption, role based data access, and regulatory alignment, that will matter as the platform grows and engages younger athletes.

  • Launch, Fundraising, And Stakeholder Enablement

The prototype is not just a design artifact, it is a storytelling tool. We worked with Elliot to ensure the flows, copy, and visuals would resonate with investors, athletic departments, coaches, and parents. The result is a clickable product he can demo in meetings, embed in pitch decks, and use to gather feedback from real users before committing to full engineering. Our goal was to give DLD a strong foundation not only for development, but also for fundraising and early adoption.

Seamless Collaboration, Every Step Of The Way

Our partnership with E. Donald Training LLC was built on open communication and shared ownership of the vision. Through weekly Zoom calls, real time collaboration in Figma, and transparent planning, we kept Elliot involved in every decision, from the way streaks are visualized to how admin taxonomy should feel for a coach building a curriculum. Each milestone included walkthroughs, comments, and refinements that kept the prototype tightly aligned with his lived experience as an athlete and mentor. By the time the final flows were in place, every screen felt authentic to DLD’s mission and ready for the next phase.

From Raw Vision To Investor Ready Prototype: DLD’s Digital Transformation

  • Clarity And Alignment

A Complete End To End User Journey Defined

DLD – Donald Legacy Defined now has a fully mapped user journey that covers onboarding, trials, subscriptions, training, gamification, and admin control. Nothing is left to imagination, every step is visible, clickable, and laid out in a way that development teams can follow with confidence. This clarity reduces risk, accelerates future builds, and ensures that the final product stays true to Elliot’s original intent.

  • Investor And Partner Confidence

A Prototype That Shows Exactly How The App Will Work

Instead of relying on slides or verbal descriptions, Elliot can now open the prototype and walk investors, schools, and coaches through the real experience an athlete will have. Seeing streaks, badges, leaderboards, and admin tools in context brings the concept to life and makes it easier for stakeholders to understand the value, potential, and seriousness behind DLD.

  • A Foundation Built For Scale

Design And Technology Choices Ready For The Next Phase

Because the prototype is grounded in an intentional technology stack and clearly defined data flows, it serves as a technical roadmap as much as a visual one. Future engineering efforts can plug directly into the documented assumptions about React Native, Firebase, Node.js, security, analytics, and subscription infrastructure. This reduces rework, supports long term scalability, and ensures that DLD can grow from football into other sports and features over time.

As the owner Donald Legacy Defined, this was my first time stepping into the tech world, and Chop Dawg made the entire experience easy to understand and genuinely exciting. They created a sharp, investor ready prototype of our training app that has already helped us secure interest and positive feedback, while consistently teaching me, guiding me, and helping me feel comfortable at every stage.
