Helping Athletes Move Pain Free Through Guided Training with True Movement

Risk is highest when people are tired, hurried, traveling, or heading into practice. Generic fitness libraries waste time, access rules break across devices, and content updates require developer help. The founders of True Movement understood that athletes and active people need something different: a training platform where discovering the right session takes seconds, where guidance is clear and safe, and where accountability keeps routines consistent. By partnering with Chop Dawg, this vision became reality. We designed and developed a complete training platform where users filter by sport, pain point, props, and duration to find short sessions or structured programs that feel made for them. Sessions include “What you will need” prop callouts and safety notes before playback begins. Progress tracking shows what is done, what is pending, last completion dates, and repeat counts. Streaks and badges motivate consistency with server-configured grace windows. Team access codes unlock organization-specific libraries, and family profiles share one subscription with independent histories. Staff operate everything from a secure administrative backend without developer involvement.

When Training Becomes Clear and Accountable: Introduction to True Movement

Traditional fitness apps overwhelm users with content that does not match their specific needs. Athletes searching for hamstring activation before practice scroll through generic workouts. Travelers looking for a low back reset cannot find something quick with the props they have available. Coaches want team members following the same preparation routines but lack a clean way to distribute curated content. Households with multiple athletes need shared access without shared history cluttering individual progress.

True Movement reimagines training as guided, targeted, and accountable. Users complete registration with email verification and two-factor authentication on new devices, then browse openly across sessions and programs filtered by sport, pain point, props, and duration. Each session displays “What you will need” and safety notes before playback. Programs sequence multiple sessions with resume capability and completion percentages. Progress states track done, pending, last completed, and times completed for every item. Streaks increment daily with configurable grace windows for late-night completions or timezone handling. Badges celebrate milestones. Team codes unlock platform-only libraries for organizations. Family profiles share subscriptions with independent histories and streaks. Staff publish content, schedule rails, manage codes, trigger announcements, and review analytics without engineering support. To bring this vision to life, Chop Dawg designed and developed mobile applications for iPhone and Android, a comprehensive administrative website application, and a cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform with Firebase.

Breaking Barriers to Impact: True Movement's Need for Guided, Accountable Training

Before True Movement, motivated athletes and busy families struggled to find the exact training they needed in the moment. Generic fitness libraries required excessive browsing. Content updates depended on developer availability. Subscriptions were fragile when managed manually. Team rollouts lacked a clean unlock mechanism for organization-specific content. Households needed shared access but individual accountability.

True Movement needed to solve multiple challenges simultaneously. Discovery had to be fast and precise, with filters by sport, pain point, props, and duration that update results instantly. Sessions required clear guidance with prop lists and safety notes before playback. Programs needed structured sequences with resume capability and completion tracking. Progress states had to show done, pending, last completed, and times completed with accuracy. Streaks required server-side configuration for grace windows and timezone handling. Team access codes had to unlock platform-only libraries with generate, replace, and revoke flows. Family profiles needed independent histories under shared subscriptions. Subscriptions had to comply with Apple App Store and Google Play Store policies through RevenueCat integration. Staff required administrative tools for content management, curation, announcements, and analytics without developer dependency.

How We Worked Together

Building a Platform That Makes Every Session Feel Intentional

From the very first conversation, we understood that True Movement needed to remove uncertainty, not add to it. Working closely with the founding team, we mapped every user journey from registration through discovery, playback, completion, and ongoing accountability. We defined how filters should narrow content instantly, how safety notes should appear before playback, how progress states should update across devices, and how streaks should calculate with grace windows for real-world scenarios like late-night completions.

Figma served as our collaborative design hub where wireframes evolved into polished, high-fidelity screens that balanced clear functionality with premium visual design. Weekly meetings during design and bi-weekly meetings during development kept all teams aligned as we iterated on complex features like the session player with safe resume, the streak calculation engine with server-configured thresholds, the team code lifecycle with replace and revoke flows, and the family profile system with independent histories. In parallel, we formalized a technical approach centered on React Native for mobile applications, React for the administrative web application, Node.js for backend services, Firebase and Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure, RevenueCat for subscriptions and entitlements with Apple In-App Purchase and Google Play Billing, Twilio for SMS verification, and SendGrid for transactional emails. Through Slack, Jira, and Confluence, every decision stayed documented and accessible throughout the engagement.

Delivering Targeted Training Through Clear Discovery and Meaningful Accountability

We designed and developed mobile applications for iPhone and Android that transform scattered fitness content into guided, sport-specific training with progress tracking that motivates consistency.

Sport and Pain-Point Discovery with Instant Filter Updates

True Movement centers the training experience around precise discovery that matches content to the user’s immediate needs. Users browse two primary content types: Sessions, which are individual guided trainings, and Programs, which are structured multi-session sequences with cadence and progress markers. Filters for sport, pain point, props, and duration update results instantly as selections change. A varsity defender before early practice selects Hockey, Hips, Mini Band, and Under 10 Minutes to find a targeted activation in seconds. A runner in a hotel room filters for Low Back and Foam Roller to locate a reset that fits available equipment. Search accepts synonyms configured in the administrative backend, so common misspellings and alternate terms surface expected matches. Browse surfaces include Today’s Training with personalized recommendations, For Your Sport with curated and algorithmic mixes, Recently Viewed for quick return access, Favorites for saved items, and Featured and Seasonal rails scheduled entirely by staff. This filter-driven architecture replaces endless scrolling with confident selection.

Session Player with Safety Notes, Steps, and Safe Resume

True Movement ensures every training session begins with confidence and recovers gracefully from interruptions. Session detail screens display a hero with title, duration, and tags, followed by “What you will need” showing required props derived from content tags, then safety notes authored by staff that surface before playback begins. Step lists show movements and phases with timing or rep ranges so users understand the structure before starting. The session player provides standard media controls, scrubbing, and jump-to-step functionality for quick navigation. Safe Resume remembers the last position and auto-recovers after phone calls, app switches, or connectivity interruptions. The Mark Complete button appears near end-of-video and on exit, updating progress states immediately. Offline guardrails display explicit messages when playback requires connectivity or entitlement refresh rather than failing silently. Programs extend this experience with overview screens showing goal descriptions, estimated total time, and numbered session sequences with recommended cadence. Resume Program jumps to the next uncompleted session. Completion counts per session and percent complete at the program level show progress through structured training.

Progress Tracking with Streaks, Badges, and Accountability Views

True Movement motivates consistency through progress states and lightweight gamification that reinforces healthy behavior without pressure. Every session and program tracks four states: Done showing completed items, Pending showing upcoming sessions in active programs and recommended singles based on tags and streak goals, Last Completed showing the most recent completion date, and Times Completed showing repeat counts. Daily activity streaks increment when users complete at least one session per day, with timezone-sensitive calculation and grace windows configurable server-side for late-night completions. The streak calendar displays a month view with completion dots and tap-to-view details. Milestone badges celebrate achievements including first session, three-day and seven-day streaks, fifteen sessions completed, first program completed, and coach or series-specific milestones. An achievement gallery shows all earned badges with dates and hints for locked badges. Team accountability views display personal streaks alongside team aggregates like weekly completion counts, respecting privacy by showing only high-level metrics without detailed playback data. Family accountability views extend the same privacy-respecting approach to household profiles.

Team Access Codes and Family Profiles for Shared Accountability

True Movement extends accountability beyond individuals through team access codes and family profiles. Athletes enter team codes from Settings or contextual prompts in paywalled areas, with paste detection and auto-formatting for easy entry. Valid codes unlock platform-only rails and collections configured for that organization, with confirmation banners showing team name and unlocked content. Active code management displays the team name, masked code suffix, and entitlements summary. Replace Code enables entering a new code when organizations rotate credentials, gracefully transitioning after confirmation. Remove Team provides explicit departure from a team, immediately relocking team libraries. When codes are revoked through the administrative backend, mobile reflects that state on next sync with a polite notice. Family profiles allow a primary subscriber to invite additional household members via email or SMS deep links. Each profile maintains independent history, favorites, and streaks under the shared subscription. The household roster shows names, avatars, last active dates, and streak summaries. Transfer Billing enables seamless handoff if the primary payer needs to change. Privacy-respecting streak views let family members encourage each other without exposing detailed playback data.

Empowering Staff with Complete Content and Operations Control

Beyond the mobile experience, we developed a comprehensive desktop-first administrative website application that gives the True Movement team complete control over content, curation, team management, announcements, and analytics without engineering dependency.

Content Management System for Sessions and Programs

The administrative backend provides a complete content management system for publishing training content. Staff upload videos with titles, descriptions, durations, and thumbnails, with server pipelines normalizing media per mobile specifications. Required tags include Sport, Pain Point, Props, Duration, and Body Part, all configurable through the admin interface. Each session lists required props derived from tags, safety notes authored by staff, and optional step lists showing movements with timing or rep ranges. Programs assemble multiple sessions into sequences with order, suggested cadence, and completion logic that mobile uses to display resume, percent complete, and per-session completion counts. Publish, unpublish, and schedule states enable draft workflows with scheduled availability. Unpublishing immediately removes content from mobile discovery and search while preserving analytics history. All taxonomy terms, rails, and collections are fully configurable, so product and content teams evolve the browsing experience without releasing new app versions.

Curation Controls for Rails, Collections, and Organization Filters

Staff curate the mobile browsing experience through comprehensive curation controls. Featured and Seasonal carousels power mobile home sections with drag-and-drop reordering, date windows for scheduled availability, and custom artwork. Changes go live on next mobile refresh without app releases. Organization-specific filters define curated sets for specific teams tied to access codes, so members see tailored browsing experiences matching their organization. Search hints manage recent search chips and suggested terms displayed in mobile fast search. Synonyms and promoted results enable launches to surface correctly regardless of how users phrase their searches. The curation system enables staff to evolve the content experience daily while maintaining consistency with organizational relationships and seasonal priorities.

Team and Organization Management with Code Lifecycle Controls

The administrative backend provides comprehensive team management with full code lifecycle controls. Create Organization captures organization name, type, primary contact, and optional notes. Entitlement configuration attaches platform-only libraries that members unlock when redeeming valid codes. Roster management enables adding, editing, and deleting team members with fields for first name, last name, email, phone, and role, plus ability to view individual streak history and earned badges. Code management enables generating one or more team access codes tied to organization entitlements with configurable maximum active codes per team. Change Codes replaces specific codes when credentials leak, immediately invalidating the replaced code on mobile. Revoke Codes invalidates single codes or all codes for an organization. Status tracking shows active, revoked, replaced, and expired states with redemption counts and last redeemed timestamps for adoption visibility. Archive Organization prevents new code generation while preserving historical data.

Announcements and Content Analytics for Informed Programming

Staff engage users and measure content performance through announcements and analytics. To align with Apple App Store and Google Play Store policies, all announcements are triggered by app actions rather than broadcast blasts. Trigger types include new content published with deep links to the program or session, half-finished workout reminders targeting users who started but did not complete specific content, and streak encouragement nudging users when streaks are at risk or celebrating milestones. Targeting enables filtering by tags and organization. Delivery generates store-compliant push and in-app notifications with precise deep links. Controls enable and disable individual triggers with configurable cooldowns to avoid over-messaging. Analytics focus on content engagement to inform programming decisions without duplicating metrics available in RevenueCat, Google Analytics, or app stores. Core metrics include Impressions showing card view counts, Unique Viewers or Starters showing accounts that began playback, Completions showing Mark Complete events, Completion Rate calculated as completions divided by starters, and Repeats showing same-user repeat completions. Accountability metrics include Active Streaks showing current streak counts and Longest Streaks showing top performers in selected windows. Breakdowns slice by sport, pain point, props, duration, program, session, and organization with date range selectors.

End-to-End Guidance and Support

Our partnership extended beyond design and development. We served as strategic advisors, helping the founding team make confident decisions about security, compliance, and platform architecture so True Movement could serve athletes with the trust and professionalism the brand demands.

  • Security Architecture Protecting User Trust

Throughout development, we implemented security measures appropriate for a platform handling user accounts and subscription entitlements. Email verification establishes session trust on devices. Two-factor authentication challenges new or untrusted devices before allowing access. Biometric unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or Android fingerprint is offered only after successful two-factor authentication on that specific device. Explicit logout revokes tokens server-side immediately. Administrative access requires strong credentials with short session durations, idle timeouts, and immediate logout capability. OpenSSL encryption secures data transmission. Password policies enforce minimum strength rules with live strength meters. Rate limiting prevents brute force attempts. These measures establish the trust necessary for users to maintain training routines and track personal progress.

  • Store-Compliant Subscriptions and Entitlements

Together, we designed a subscription model that complies fully with Apple App Store and Google Play Store policies. Purchases flow through Apple In-App Purchase on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android with localized pricing and explicit renewal terms. RevenueCat manages subscription state and entitlement checks across devices. Restore Purchases and Manage Subscription links appear in Settings and on every paywall. All paywall copy includes clear free trial duration, renewal cadence, and cancellation language handled by the storefronts. Non-entitled users can browse catalog shells and read overviews, but playback is gated behind compliant paywalls. Team code and family invite redemption require active subscriptions. In-app account deletion is available with clear reminder that deleting the account does not cancel store subscriptions.

  • Privacy, Accessibility, and Launch Preparation

Beyond core functionality, we implemented privacy and accessibility standards appropriate for a health and training platform. Point-of-need permission explainers precede every operating system dialog, with no blanket prompts at first launch. Notifications contain no sensitive content in previews. Content announcements are event-triggered only, avoiding broadcast spam. Large tap targets meet minimum standards, dynamic type supports all text sizes, semantic labels enable screen reader compatibility, and high-contrast controls respect accessibility preferences. Apple App Store and Google Play Store submissions include accurate privacy nutrition labels and Data Safety forms. Store creative assets including icons, screenshots, and promotional graphics maintain brand consistency. Transactional email templates for welcome, verification, password reset, and account lifecycle events use clear, non-technical copy aligned with True Movement branding.

Seamless Collaboration, Every Step of the Way

Our partnership with the True Movement team was built on shared commitment to helping athletes move pain free. Weekly meetings during design phases provided alignment on complex features like the filter-driven discovery system, the session player with safe resume, and the streak calculation engine with grace windows. Bi-weekly meetings during programming ensured development stayed on track while respecting the longer timelines required for subscription integration, team code lifecycle, and family profile systems. Figma served as our collaborative design canvas where feedback happened in real time. Jira tracked every feature and bug through completion while Confluence captured all decisions and documentation for future reference. GitHub stored version-controlled code with complete commit history. A dedicated project manager coordinated across design, development, and quality assurance teams. Comprehensive quality assurance testing covered functional flows, cross-device compatibility, offline resilience, and accessibility touchpoints. The completed platform represents a true partnership in bringing a premium training vision to athletes and active people.
