The platform required real-time matchmaking that paired users during scheduled windows based on mutual preferences and location. Video calling infrastructure had to support instant connections with reliable quality. Identity verification needed to address catfishing concerns for users willing to pay for premium features. The business model had to balance free access for user acquisition with premium subscriptions and advertising revenue. Working closely with the founding team, we mapped every user journey from registration through profile creation, prime-time participation, video connections, and ongoing communication with matches. We defined how timed intervals should create urgency without feeling rushed, how the transition from profile viewing to video calling should feel seamless, and how the experience outside prime-time hours should build anticipation rather than feel empty.

Figma served as our collaborative design hub where wireframes evolved into polished, high-fidelity screens that balanced the excitement of live events with the trust required for dating platforms. Weekly meetings during design and bi-weekly meetings during development kept all teams aligned as we iterated on complex features like the real-time matchmaking queue, Twilio video integration, Stripe Identity verification, and the location-based scheduling system. In parallel, we formalized a technical approach centered on React Native for mobile applications, React for the administrative web application, Node.js with Laravel for backend services, Firebase and Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure, Stripe with Apple Pay and Google Pay for subscriptions, Twilio for video calling and SMS verification, and OneSignal for push notifications. Through Slack, Jira, and Confluence, every decision stayed documented and accessible throughout the engagement.

Cosmos Technologies centers the dating experience around scheduled prime-time sessions configured per location through the administrative backend. When prime-time begins in a user’s local timezone, the matchmaking experience activates. During each timed interval, users receive a single recommended profile based on mutual discovery preferences including gender, age range, distance, height, lifestyle factors, and shared hobbies. Both users view each other’s profiles simultaneously and must decide within the interval whether to express interest. If both users indicate interest, they immediately enter a video call. If either passes, both users receive new recommendations at the next interval. This timed structure creates urgency and authenticity: users must be present and engaged, making quick decisions based on genuine reactions rather than endless deliberation. Specialized screens display countdowns before prime-time begins, notifications when sessions are starting or ending, and messaging when users exhaust their free interaction limits.

Instant Video Calling with Match Confirmation Flow

When mutual interest is expressed during matchmaking, Cosmos Technologies immediately initiates a video call through Twilio integration. Users can toggle cameras on or off, flip between front and back cameras, mute microphones, and view call duration. This immediate face-to-face interaction eliminates the uncertainty that plagues traditional dating apps. Users see each other in real-time with no filters, no angles, no wondering if photos are recent. During or after the initial call, both users can opt-in to remain matched, enabling continued messaging and calling outside prime-time hours. If users do not opt-in before the app closes, they receive prompts upon reopening to confirm whether they want to stay connected. Call history is stored within message threads for reference. The video infrastructure supports the core promise of Cosmos Technologies: find out right away whether there is chemistry, without investing weeks in messaging or planning dates with uncertain outcomes.

Comprehensive Profiles with Identity Verification for Subscribers

User profiles capture the information necessary for meaningful matchmaking while supporting the platform’s premium verification feature. Profiles include first names, age, location with distance calculations, occupation or education details, about me biographies, height, and preferences for religion, alcohol, cannabis, smoking, and children. Users upload photos and videos with reordering and deletion capabilities. Hobby selections enable highlighting shared interests during matchmaking recommendations. For premium subscribers, Stripe Identity integration provides verification that users are who they claim to be. Users photograph their identification card and take a selfie, with Stripe’s API confirming the match. Verified users display badges on their profiles, and subscribers can filter discovery to show only verified accounts. This verification directly addresses catfishing concerns, giving users confidence that the person they are video calling matches their profile representation.

Empowering the Platform Team with Complete Operational Control

Beyond the mobile experience, we developed a comprehensive web-based administrative backend that gives the Cosmos Technologies team complete control over locations, scheduling, users, advertisements, safety reports, and platform analytics.

Location and Matchmaking Schedule Configuration

The administrative backend provides granular control over where and when Cosmos Technologies operates. Administrators add locations with configurable mile radii, determining which geographic areas support matchmaking. For each location, prime-time schedules specify start and end times that automatically adjust to users’ local timezones. Schedules can vary by day of the week, with certain days having no matchmaking if desired. One-time schedule overrides enable special events or holiday closures. Time interval durations for each matchmaking round can be customized per location, allowing experimentation with different pacing. When users in unsupported locations attempt to access matchmaking, they see specialized messaging and can opt into notifications when their area becomes available. This location-based architecture enables controlled rollout, starting in specific markets before expanding nationally or internationally.

Advertisement Campaign Management with Performance Analytics

Cosmos Technologies supports advertising revenue through comprehensive campaign management. Administrators create advertisements with names, images sized for mobile devices using downloadable templates, destination URLs that open in an in-app browser, and scheduling with start and end dates. Geographic targeting leverages user geolocation to display advertisements only in specified states. Priority ranking controls how frequently advertisements appear relative to others. Performance analytics track impressions and clicks with complete user attribution including usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, timestamps, and geolocation at the time of viewing or clicking. Click-through rate calculations provide immediate campaign effectiveness metrics. Analytics can be filtered by custom date ranges and exported as CSV or PDF documents for advertiser reporting. This infrastructure enables Cosmos Technologies to monetize free users while providing advertisers with the targeting and measurement they require.

User safety is paramount for any dating platform, and the administrative backend provides comprehensive report management. Users can submit safety reports on profiles, messages, video calls, or miscellaneous concerns, selecting from configurable reason categories, providing written descriptions, and uploading supporting images. Reports are searchable by user email, phone number, or name, filterable by reason category and content type, and sortable by date ranges. Individual report views display complete context including reporter information, timestamps, selected reasons, message bodies, and attachments. Administrators can mark reports as read or unread, respond via email directly from the interface, and mark reports as resolved. When users report others, automatic blocking prevents future matchmaking recommendations. The system maintains complete audit trails for all reports and administrative actions, supporting accountability and enabling pattern detection for repeat offenders.

Premium subscriptions, available in monthly, three-month, and annual tiers through Apple Pay and Google Pay, remove advertisements, enable unlimited matchmaking interactions, and unlock identity verification with the ability to filter discovery to only verified accounts. This freemium model ensures anyone can experience Cosmos Technologies while providing clear value for subscribers who want the full experience. RevenueCat integration manages subscription status across platforms.

Two-factor authentication via SMS protects all accounts during login and password reset flows. OpenSSL encryption with AES-256-CBC cipher secures all data transmission.
